Greggs has finally launched a black card, but only Stormzy has one

Greggs has issued its first ever official black card, giving Stormzy the provision to enjoy as many steak bakes and sausage rolls as his pleases, free of charge.

The bakery's new "next level VIP" service was revealed on Thursday after the grime artist announced the news on social media.

Stormzy, who won the British Male Solo Artist Award at the BRITs on Tuesday, shared a video on Instagram while travelling to the airport to start the European leg of his H.I.T.H world tour.

“Public Service Announcement: The game has changed forever. Check this," he told his 3.1m fans on Instagram. "I have peaked, this is brilliant", he wrote on Twitter.

Greggs is late to the idea of black cards. Nando's has famously gifted them to celebrities, sending them out to people like Ed Sheeran and Example, who have mentioned the chicken brand in their music.

But Nando's isn't the high street food stop in vogue right now - it's been a while since anyone mentioned the word "cheeky" - and Greggs has instead taken up the mantle.

So it makes sense that the company, which now has more than 2,000 locations across the UK, and will soon be launching hubs in Asda supermarkets, has launched its "next level VIP" service.

Stormzy's surprise package featured a membership card displayed in "bespoke packaging" along with a welcome video and a pair of size-12 Greggs slippers, the footwear a gentle nod to his appearance on BBC Breakfast in which he turned up live on air in his own.

Who's next?

Not much is known about Greggs' new concierge service. Stormzy's privileges simply grant him free access to pastry products whenever he so chooses. He's been told to "live life like it's golden".

The South Londoner has confessed to enjoying Greggs in the past, talking about his appreciation of the vegan sausage roll, yum yums, and sausage, cheese and bean melts in past interviews.

No manner of bargaining will get you a black card of your own in case you're wondering, as Greggs has confirmed the club is by invite only.

The chain wouldn't tell us who's next in line, either, but said simply: "Our Concierge card is strictly by invite only to some of our biggest fans. That’s all we can say.”
