Green tea KitKats finally coming to UK

As if the news that new salted caramel and hazelnut KitKat flavours are about to hit UK shops were about to hit shops wasn't exciting enough, Nestlé has now gone and made another big announcement.

The confectionery company have revealed that they are going to start producing their popular Matcha green tea flavoured KitKats in Europe later this month.

The chocolate bars were first created in Japan back in 2004 and are beloved by many chocolate fans, but they've not been available in UK shops before.

If you're used to the standard chocolate and wafer snack, this new product may come as a bit of a shock, what with it being bright green in colour.

This unusual hue comes from the product's main ingredient green-tea matcha powder.

The powder is mixed with cocoa butter and white chocolate to create the tasty treat which has a "sweet and fragrant flavour".

According to Bloomberg, Nestlé are making the KitKat green tea matcha bars at their factory in Hamburg and will then be rolling them out across eight European countries.

These include Germany, The UK, Italy and Switzerland.

If the chocolate bar is met with success, they will then extend this out to wider areas.

This follows the roll-out of the famous Ruby chocolate version of Nestlé’s four-finger KitKat, which will appear in retailers nationwide following an incredibly successful launch in Tesco last year.

Alexander von Maillot, global head of confectionery at Nestlé, said: "The launches of KitKat Ruby and KitKat green tea matcha are further proof of our commitment to our leading international confectionery brand.

"We have introduced other innovative flavours and premium products to KitKat, KitKat Chunky and KitKat Senses in recent years and there is more to come."

The new KitKat is one of more than 350 varieties of KitKat currently being sold in Japan.

Other unusual flavours include baked sweet potato, melon, cheese and chestnut.
