Apparently, people feel more strongly than we first realised about this. So much so, a fierce debate has blown up online about how burnt your toast should be. As for the bread itself, how burnt do you have yours?
Toast fans did point out that the type of bread should be taken into account. I.e. what works for sourdough may not work
on a regular white loaf.
One woman also added that she might burn her toast to a three when making chicken sandwiches, but would dial it up to a six for grilled cheese sandwiches.
Some strange individuals even said that nine was acceptable.
However, the FSA do warn that burnt toast could pose as a cancer risk, owing to acrylamide, a chemical formed when starchy foods are subjected to a high temperature.
